According to the vendor, this portrait was used by W. Salter for his large painting of 'The Waterloo Banquet, 1836' (see NPG 3735), but the comparison between the two is not very close. Macdonell is shown with the star of the Bath and several other medals.
Physical descriptionback to top
Blue eyes, brown hair. Dressed in a red uniform, with gold-braided epaulettes, neck, cuffs and sword-belt, various medals, dark-blue trousers with gold stripe. Background colour green. There is a crack down the middle of the miniature.

By descent to Miss Julia Reade (granddaughter of the sitter), and purchased from her, 1934.
