This is the only recorded portrait of Maguire. He is wearing the undress uniform of a naval commander (1856 pattern), with (from left to right) the Arctic Medal (1818-55), the China Medal (1842 or 1857), and the Naval General Service Medal (1793-1840).

Healthy complexion, dark eyes, brown hair and whiskers. Dressed in a dark neck-tie, white shirt, dark blue waistcoat and naval uniform, with gilt buttons, gold-braided epaulettes, and silver medals with red and grey ribbons. Background colour dark greenish-brown.
