Closely related to a Loggan drawing in the British Museum (1854-8-12-34) which differs only in detail, showing, for example, less linear drapery folds and a different outline to the cap. [1] The type was engraved by Loggan (ad vivum deliniavit et sculpsit), an example is NPG 637 but the plate does not precisely resemble either drawing; a second state shows the Garter Badge, i.e. after 1684 when Mews became Prelate of that Order.
A painted version sold Puttick & Simpson, 17 July 1890, lot 78; a crudely painted, reversed, version is in the Bishop’s Palace, Exeter.
