The drawing seems to be a posthumous free copy by Mrs Jones of her original 1792 drawing of Morland's head and shoulders on a canvas under a weeping-willow tree, palette, maulstick, crook and Pan pipes in the foreground, a sunburst of glory behind; this was engraved by K. Mackenzie 'from A Drawing made by Mrs S. Jones, A.D. 1792/Pubd by J Cunder, Albion Press London' and used by Hassell as frontispiece in 1805. A watercolour copy attributed to T. M. Richardson junior was at Christie's 18 July 1967 (37).

Given by J. J. Byam Shaw (Colnaghi & Co) 1964.
