The early history of these caricatures [NPG 3097(1-10)] is unknown. They may possibly have been in the Landseer sales at Christie's 8-15 May 1874, and Smith Son & Oakley 28 July 1874, where there were several lots of unspecified drawings. The dates c.1825-c.1835 are based on the costume and the apparent age of the sitters.
