A plaster cast, related to this bust, is in the Scottish NPG. The type was engraved by W. H. Egleton, published J. Murray, 1857 (example in NPG). Adams executed a statue of Napier in 1863 for St Paul's Cathedral, reproduced as a woodcut ILN, XLII (1863), 73, making use of the NPG type for the head. Another marble bust by Adams was exhibited RA, 1860 (967). Several plaster casts of busts by Adams were purchased at the same time as this one from the artist's widow.
