The Complete Set of Nautical Tables, known to generations of sailors as Norie’s Tables, was published in 1803, approximately the date of this portrait. A card removed from the back in 1939 and now in registered packet 1131 is inscribed in flourishing pencil Copied from Williams By Mr Buck. This refers possibly to an original but unlocated painting by Solomon Williams, one of Adam Buck's Irish compatriots. No other portrait of Norie is recorded in the NPG archive.
