A visitor to the NPG in 1956, Dr W. B. Manley, suggested that as he knew of a record of Ochterlony's having been painted by an Indian artist, Kiwan Ram of Meerut, this might be it; presumably he meant 'Raja' Jivan Ram.

Half-length in uniform of colonel of 28 Bengal Native Infantry, holding a hookah; white hair, dark blue eyes, very pale complexion.

William Sprot Boyd (of the Indian Civil Service and Resident in Baroda, d. 1840); bequeathed to his brother Edward Lennox Boyd who gave it to the NPG 1900.
