This drawing was bought in a lot which included several other Linnell water-colours and drawings; thirteen of these were retained by the Gallery, and the rest, of unknown or unimportant sitters, dispersed. A water-colour by Linnell of Lady Perry of 1841 is listed by A. T. Story, Life of John Linnel (1892), II, 258.
