The drawing may be ad vivum but could be a copy of a self-portrait of Phillips in his 60s; several similar drawings of Phillips many years younger were in an album at Sotheby's 12 July 1973 (110). It is accompanied in the Brockedon album by a letter from Phillips thanking Brockedon for the sight of some etchings by Willmore.
