The portrait is accompanied by a letter from Drummond to the Keeper of the RA offering it among five pictures for the 1833 exhibition (letter of 9 April 1833 in NPG archive, bought for the NPG in 1976).

Half-length facing, left hand on arm of chair with red upholstery, black coat, white shirt, bushy grey hair and Newgate fringe, brown eyes, ruddy complexion; plain grey background, red curtain to right.

Family inheritance and given by Place's great-grandson Sir Henry Miers 1922.
