This portraitback to top

Pollock was one of Laurence's most constant friends and patrons. Two studies for this portrait are in the collection of Miss Armide Oppé. A copy is owned by Mrs R. C. D'Oyly Mann. Another oil portrait of Pollock by Laurence was exhibited RA, 1847 (168), and a drawing of 1863 is in the NPG (732).

Physical descriptionback to top

Sallowish complexion, greyish eyes, grey wig. Dressed in the red and ermine robes of a judge, with his(?) gold chain of office, holding open a brown leather-bound volume on his knee. Resting the other hand on the red judicial bench on which he is seated. Almost all the background covered by a dark reddish-brown curtain. Lighter brown patch of wall top right-hand corner.
