Also in the miniature case, at the back, was one of Rennie's visiting cards, inscribed: portrait [ink] MR RENNIE, [printed]/by Linnell, [ink]/39, Wilton Crescent, Belgrave Square. [printed]

This superb miniature by Linnell is the only recorded portrait of Rennie. The town in the background has not been identified. Linnell was living at 6 Cirencester Place in 1824.

Fresh complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair. Dressed in a white shirt and stock, light yellowish waistcoat and brown coat; behind is a view of a light bluish river and grey bridge, and a brown building with green bushes in the foreground and a grey church tower beyond on the left. Blue sky.

Apparently the miniature listed by Story, as in the collection of the Misses A. and E. Rennie, 1892; Ewart Wheeler, purchased from him, 1949.
