The apparent age of the sitter and his dress indicate an early 19th-century date, and another example of the wax, in the Leeds City Art Gallery (18/81), has been dated 1810. [1] An unattributed wax portrait of Reynolds was in the Hatfield House, Chilham, sale, 3 December 1964, lot 175.
