This is a preliminary study of Russell's head for the full-length marble statue in the Palace of Westminster, the model for which was exhibited RA, 1880 (1590), reproduced Magazine of Art (1880), p 336. A related marble bust is in Westminster Abbey. The donor commissioned three plaster casts of the NPG head.
