According to Mrs Jackson the silhouette was cut in Edinburgh in 1830, the author comparing the outline to Crombie's similar drawing of 1831 (E. Nevill Jackson, Ancestors in Silhouette, 1921, p 23, and 'The Shadow of Scott' in Connoisseur, XC, 1932, pp 169-71). Two silhouettes of Scott by Edouart, one signed and dated 1831, are in Scottish NPG (Centenary 1932, nos.62 and 67).
