The miniature shows Dr Sibthorp aged about 35 and was probably painted at the time of publication of his Flora Oxoniensis 1794 and before his departure for Greece in March 1794. The artist's name is unknown though Richard Collins has been suggested as a possibility.

Head and shoulders to right in grey wig, reddish-brown coat, white waistcoat with buttons half undone, white neckcloth; blue eyes, pale complexion, aged about 35.

Family possession and given by the last descendant, the Hon Mrs Dudley Pelham 1964, together with a miniature by the same artist of his father, Humphry Sibthorp (NPG 4408).
