A portrait of Stanfield by Simpson, signed and dated 1829, and close in style, treatment and date to the NPG portrait, was recorded by J. S. Steegman in the collection of another descendant of Stanfield (memorandum of 26 September 1933, NPG archives); he does not, however, give the name of the owner. The 1829 Simpson portrait was exhibited RA, 1829 (359), SKM, 1868 (601), and VE, 1892 (194); it was engraved by W. Say, published B. Tiffin, 1834 (example in British Museum).
