Inscribed in ink on an old label on the back: No 4/Lord Teignmouth/by George Richmond/16 Beaumont Street/Devonshire Place (now in registered packet 5145 in NPG archive).

Four copies of Teignmouth's portrait are listed in Richmond's Account Book (photostat copy of original MS in NPG library); page 7 under 1832 for 10 guineas, the drawing exhibited RA 1833 and engraved by Lupton; page 8 under 6 February 1833, a duplicate for £18.7.6.; page 12 under 3 November 1834 for 2 guineas and a copy for 5 guineas. NPG 5145 is inscribed No 4 on the back so is presumably the 5 guinea copy, though it is clearly signed and dated 1832.

Three-quarter-length seated facing in a purple coat with black collar, black trousers, scarlet waistcoat just showing, dark blue cravat; curly grey hair, vivid blue eyes, pink complexion.

The sitter and by descent to Mrs Bullock of North Devon; Farington English Watercolour Service, Mevagissey, and bought from them 1977.
