This grisaille water-colour was executed for the magazine, Black and White, 15 August 1891, p 230, as no.7 of a series called 'The Men of the Hour'. It is very close to, and almost certainly based on, a photograph by Barraud of 1882 (example in NPG). The Rev Hodgson inherited the portrait from his father.
