Inscribed in pencil on back by Agnes Gardner King: Dr James Thomson Lord Kelvin's father. Born 1786 died Jan 12,/1849. Portrait taken 1847./Copy by Agnes Gardner King/Dr Thomson by his daughter Elizabeth/This pencil drawing was shown in September 1908 to Mr/Digby who was a student in our grandfather's class/while Uncle William was in Cambridge. He said it recalled/the old Professor more forcibly to his mind than mother's copy/of Graham Gilbert's picture. AGK
