This is a copy of the original painting by Grant at St Paul's School, listed in the artist's 'Sitters Book' (copy of original MS, NPG archives), under 1850, exhibited RA, 1851 (421), SKM, 1868 (473) and VE, 1892 (92), engraved by G. Zobel, published J. Mitchell, 1851 (example in NPG). Another copy by Gooderson is in the House of Lords, and an anonymous copy was in the collection of C. R. Schonmeyr, 1961. The NPG portrait was one of several presented by the same society in 1877. It represents Truro in the year in which he became lord chancellor, with the lord chancellor's mace and seal bag on the table behind (he is not, however, dressed in his robes of office).
