Ward exhibited a self-portrait, possibly NPG 1684, at the RA 1831 (292). NPG 1684 is forcefully painted and shows the artist as a man of just over 60.

Head and shoulders to left in a loose grey studio coat over black coat, white shirt and neckcloth; grey hair and whiskers, grey eyes with steel-rimmed spectacles, ruddy complexion; plain drab background.
