The wax probably dates from 1832 when De Veaux exhibited an intaglio gem RA 1832 (1084). A plaster medallion of the Duke by De Veaux is in the National Museum of Ireland (W. G. Strickland, Dictionary of Irish Artists, 2 vols., 1913, 276). The profile appears to derive from Parker's Great Men medallion by A. J. Stothard issued in 1826 and itself originating in Nollekens's bust of 1813.
