The wax probably dates from 1832 when De Veaux exhibited an intaglio gem RA 1832 (1084). A plaster medallion of the Duke by De Veaux is in the National Museum of Ireland (W. G. Strickland, Dictionary of Irish Artists, 2 vols., 1913, 276). The profile appears to derive from Parker's Great Men medallion by A. J. Stothard issued in 1826 and itself originating in Nollekens's bust of 1813.
Provenanceback to top
Given by R. M. Holland-Martin 1937 with a similar wax medallion of William IV (see Richard Ormond, National Portrait Gallery: Early Victorian Portraits, 1973, p 509).
