When acquired NPG 5386 was framed together with the portrait of John Locke NPG 5385 by Dahl dated 1696, but the portraits are not by the same hand. They are inscribed in the same hand, which recurs on the three-quarter-length of Molyneux formerly with the Molyneux family.
