A commemorative medal, probably commissioned by Snelling’s son, Thomas Snelling, NPG 6078 is the only recorded example with the inscription the great medallist of his time. An etching by John Thane appears a crude derivation of Pingo’s medal, but it is dated 1770 and suggests, therefore, a common (undiscovered) source.
