This drawing, together with a companion drawing of Dr Cotton receiving the Duke of Nemours at Worcester College on the reverse, was sent by Clara Pusey to her cousin, Alice Herbert, as part of a running commentary on people and events at Oxford. The letter to Alice, on both sides of the sheet, is given at length in the discussion of the collection as a whole. The figures at the table are, from left to right, Mansel, Clara Pusey, Mrs Brine, Mr Starkey, the Hon Alan Herbert, Mr Brine and Mrs Mansel.
