This finished drawing is close to, but not the same as, the one listed by John Rothenstein in The Portrait Drawings of William Rothenstein 1889–1925 (1926), as no.607, which is now untraced. NPG 6713 is larger, and contains black as well as red and white chalks. Unlike the missing drawing it has no signature, date or inscription. But the poses are similar and this allows it to be dated around 1922.
See NPG Portrait Set ‘Prominent men and women: drawings and paintings by Sir William Rothenstein, 1895–1939’.
