Also this year 1834 Branwell and family visited the 'Royal Northern Festival for the Encouragement of Visual Arts', Leeds, to see Charlotte's 'Bolton Abbey' hanging alongside stars of the day (Turner, Nasmyth, Wilkie, Calvert and Linnell among many). Charlotte is the youngest, and only female exhibitor. Her shy, incremental drawing 'Bolton Abbey' commemorates the sibling's exclusive guided tour of Bolton Abbey the previous summer. The family likely met exhibitors William Robinson, subsequently Branwell's 2nd tutor at the gala event, and sculptor J B Leyland, Branwell's 'best friend'.
