This production of Shakespeare's comedy was performed at The Old Vic Theatre in London before transferring to the New Theatre (now the Noël Coward Theatre) in February 1937. Yevonde's photograph depicts a cast of thirty actors and provides a glimpse of the colourful scene that audiences would have witnessed on stage.

International
The Spanish Civil War begins. Nationalists, led by General Francisco Franco, and supported by Italian and German fascist governments, rebelled against the Second Spanish Republic. The cast for this production is well known, see https://www.kent.ac.uk/library/specialcollections/theatre/r.php/36174/show.html. Edith Evans played the role of Rosalind, Michael Redgrave played Orlando, Eileen Peel played Celia, Milton Rosmer played Touchstone and Sir Alec Guinness played Le Beau and William. From the programme it should be possible to link many more actors and actresses to this portrait.
