In the Works of Jeremy Bentham, the philosopher, Vol XI, ed Dr J Bowring : " Bentham used to discuss with Mr William Bentham who had pursued antiquarian studies, the subject of their common ancestry, and they used to trace the origin of their family. "
In William Bentham's Will he bequeathed a parchment family tree to Captain George Bentham, RN. This tree was passed on through the family, I last heard of it in the 1990s. I know of no connection between this George Bentham & Willliam Bentham in your portrait.
