This portrait is from Guest’s body of work entitled What Lies Beneath. His ambition was to ‘make a series of portraits of the dancers themselves, as opposed to dancers dancing, to show the character that underpins their performance, to see the determination and sacrifice that it takes to succeed at such a high level’. Working alongside stylist Olivia Pomp, his long-term collaborator,Guest captured ballet dancers in their various guises to make portraits which are beautiful yet often brutal, intimate and raw. They were exhibited at the Hospital Club Gallery (2016) and were published in a limited edition book.
