Letter from de László to John Robertson - 19 July 1934

Letter from Philip de László, dated 19 July 1934, to John Robertson of the Panmure Salon in Dundee, in which the artist looks forward to beginning a portrait of Petrie

19th July, 1934.

Dear Mr. Robertson,
It was very kind of you to write to me, as I know how busy you are, and we are very glad to know that you enjoyed your time here in our home. I am only sorry that Mrs. de László was absent, and on such a sad errand for us and for the young couple, for the newly born child died a few hours later.

I wish to thank you for sending me the Scottish Newspapers. It was very pleasant news to me to see that Their Majesties were interested in the picture of Lady Airlie which I had the pleasure to offer to the Dundee Art Gallery.

Mrs. de László is so pleased that you both like to Have the reproduction of her picture.

I am sure Mrs. Carter would be very pleased to hear from you how much you like the portrait. It is certainly a pleasure to have such a pretty young girl to paint, but today I am looking forward to beginning the portrait of Sir Flinders Petrie, which is more to my taste!

My family are leaving tomorrow for the country, but I have to stay on till the end of this month, as I am very busy with several canvases to finish, and much look forward to my rest in August.

With our united greetings to you both.

Yours very sincerely,
