Inspiring People - Make History

Will you help us Make History?

We have launched a major fundraising appeal to help secure the remaining funds needed to make the Inspiring People project happen.

The National Portrait Gallery is unique in being both for, and about, people.  From Katherine Parr to Martin Parr, we serve as the nation’s family album, inviting everyone to meet the people who have made, and are making, Britain what it is today.

Founded in 1856, the Gallery moved to its current home, a beautiful Grade I listed building designed by the eminent Victorian architect Ewan Christian in 1896.  This was largely due to the generosity of the philanthropist William Henry Alexander.  Since then, the Gallery has thrived thanks to the continued support of many people and their donations large and small.

The Inspiring People project will be our most important transformation for over a century. Please support us today and help make history.
