Alex James (1968-), Bassist; member of Blur
Although he is still involved with the music world, Alex James, bass player in the rock band Blur, spends most of his time these days on his organic farm in Oxfordshire, where he lives with his wife, four children and a flock of sheep. With his business partner, Juliet Harbutt, he makes soft cheeses with names such as Little Wallop, Blue Monday and the soon-to-be-launched ‘Phoenix' that use local ingredients and traditional methods. His cheese ‘Farleigh Wallop' picked up the award for Best Goat's Cheese at the 14th British Cheese Awards in September 2008. A prolific writer, Alex James has a regular column in the Independent and The Spectator and contributes to a number of other daily papers and magazines. He is also one of the regular presenters of Radio 4's rural affairs programme ‘On Your Farm'.
