Egg tempera and oil on gesso panel
Madeline Fenton studied at the Royal Academy of Music before undertaking painting studies with David Cranswick. Fenton’s work has been seen in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (2007) and the annual exhibitions of the Royal Society of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of British Artists.
The portrait is of the artist’s grandchild, Cecilia. Fenton says: ‘From her birth, I have been charting her growth and marking changes through the years in a series of small paintings.’ Fenton’s technique is based on that of Renaissance artists, using natural and traditional materials, grinding the pigments and mixing them in either egg tempera or oil.
