Simón Ramírez Restrepo studied graphic design at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (Medellín, Colombia) and undertook an MFA at New York Academy of Art. His work has been seen in group and solo exhibitions in Colombia and the USA and he was able to undertake a residency at New York Academy of Art, Istanbul, Turkey.
The portrait is of the artist’s girlfriend and was the result of a playful sitting in her apartment rather than in the studio. After taking reference photographs and making sketches he decided to focus on a pimple on her neck and the work was completed with further sittings as the work progressed.
