Rupert Alexander studied at the Charles Cecil Studios, Florence and the Florence Academy of Art. His work is held in private and public collections in the UK and his portrait of Sir Andrew Wiles was commissioned for the National Portrait Gallery Collection. He was previously selected for the BP Portrait Award in 2007 and 2012.
This family portrait depicts Michelle and Sam Levinson and four of their five daughters. In a previous commission, Alexander had painted two of the Levinson children and that work is seen in its early stages on an easel in the studio. The family travelled from New York to London for sittings in the summer of 2015 and again early in 2016.
