Oil on canvas

Eleana Antonaki gained a BFA from the University of Ioannina, Greece, and is currently undertaking an MFA at Parsons, the New School For Design, New York. Her work has been seen in group exhibitions in Athens, Thessaloniki and New York.

The portrait is of Julie Laenkholm, a close friend and fellow artist. Julie is pictured meditating in her studio, with some of the sculptural objects she uses in her work. Antonaki was interested in composing an environment that reveals little about the space in which the sitter exists, while suggesting a narrative that takes place ‘outside of the image’.
