Oil on Canvas

Dragos Badita undertook a BA degree in Painting and an MA in Visual Art at the University of Art and Design Cluj, Romania, graduating in 2011. His work has been seen in solo exhibitions in Romania and in group shows in Germany, Denmark and Switzerland.

The portrait is of the artists’s girlfriend, Andreea, sitting on the floor waiting for him to to eat Chinese soup with her. Badita says: ‘We are in a long distance relationship and I wanted to capture a sense of longing.’ He was inspired by the simple composition and tranquillity often found in Japanese prints.
