BP Travel Award 2015: £6,000

All selected artists were invited to apply for the BP Travel Award 2016 and the resulting work will be displayed as part of the BP Portrait Award 2017 exhibition.

Laura, who is based in Lithuania, won for her proposal to travel to a migrant camp in Greece and to document both the refugees and the volunteers who are helping them. She will use sketches, photographs and film to form the basis for two large-scale portraits which will be painted back in her studio. The project will be arranged with the relevant local authorities and international aid organisations.

Laura says: ‘I hope to be able to convey very personal themes in my portraits that may otherwise be difficult to put into words.’
