Across the Gallery


This summer Sky Arts invited artists from all over Britain and Ireland to compete for the title of Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year. Almost 2000 artists entered the competition and a shortlist was drawn up by a panel of judges, Kathleen Soriano, Director of Exhibitions at the Royal Academy, portrait artist Tai Shan Schierenberg and Kate Bryan, Head of Contemporary at the Fine Art Society.

Sandy Nairne, Director of the National Portrait Gallery, joined the judging panel to select and overall winner, 25-yera-old Cardiff finalisist, Nick Lord, was awarded £10,000 commission to paint Hilary Mantel for the British Library.

The Sky Portrait Artist of the Year television series is available to view on Sky On Demand.

The work produced by the four winners of the individual heats across the television series, can be seen on display at the Gallery from Friday 13 to Thursday 19 December:

Ewan McClure – Room 12, Floor 2
Nick Lord – Room 20, Floor 2
Luis Morris – Room 22, Floor 1
Selena Mowat – Landing adjacent to Room 32, Floor 1

Please note that this is a short-term display and the works are shown on easels within existing gallery spaces.
