Across the Gallery
Join us this October half term for a big drawing extravaganza! Explore drawing with the senses through fun, playful activities for all the family. From creating your own tactile drawing to drawing what you hear - touch, smell, look and listen in workshops to tingle the senses.
All activities are free and drop in. Capacity is limited, first come first served.
When you arrive head to our Family Desk on Floor 0 to see what’s on and pick up one of our fun family activity trails.
Activity spaces and a lunchroom can be found in the Learning Centre on Floor -2.
Woven Wall Hangings
Inspired by Grayson Perry and patterns in the Galleries' portraits try out different weaving techniques. Use a combination of wool and mark making to create a colourful wall plaque merging geometric and freeform patterns or make a quirky woven container. Take your woven wonders home with you.

Sensory, Portrait Patterned Postcards
Smell the roses! Enjoy using your senses to mindfully and reflectively draw a portrait of you, a family member or a favourite pet, surrounded by a pattern of plants. Are you more rosemary or rose, apple mint or peppermint? Look at portraits of famous people in their gardens, how are the plants making them feel? Write and send your postcard - tell the receiver about your lovely drawing!

In the Jungle
What does a portrait sound like? Go wild in this workshop inspired by Dame Jane Goodall's portrait with Figan the Chimpanzee. Scribble, scrawl and draw on our gigantic drawing pad among the sounds of the jungle.
