These intimate art weekends enable you to explore, develop and improve your creativity. Working alongside leading artists and photographers, take inspiration from the Gallery and look at portraiture in new, exciting ways. Class numbers are limited to 12. All materials are provided.

Inspired by this year’s selection in the best of contemporary portrait painting from around the world, spend two days in the studio working with exhibiting artist Luis Ruocco.

Working from a nude and clothed life model in a sustained pose, this workshop will focus on depicting the figure using “hidden skin colours”. The first day will focus on experimenting with primary colours. In the morning attendees will have the opportunity to produce some sketching with oil pastels of the life model in a short pose. After lunch the focus will be drawing the model straight onto the canvas, leading to a deeper understanding of how to translate brightness and shadows in colours.

The second day will focus on experimenting with complementary colours and creating shadows with vibrant contrasts which opens the door to greater freedom of expression. At the end of the day there will be an opportunity for a quick debate on the outcomes of the workshop. Attendees will receive individually tailored advice and tuition to improve their own work.

Suitable for all abilities, all materials provided.
