Nancy Fletcher studied fine art photography at Edinburgh Art College and worked as a freelance photographer before returning to fine art painting. She attended the Charles H. Cecil Studios, Florence, and Jacob Collins’s Walter Street Atelier and Grand Central Academy, New York. Her work has been seen in group exhibitions in the UK and USA including the annual exhibitions of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.

The portrait is of Fletcher’s fellow artist and friend, Travis and was inspired by the light effects in paintings by the Danish nineteenth-century artist, Christen Købke.
