Greg Kapka is a largely self-taught artist whose work has been seen in group exhibitions in Lincoln and London.

The portrait is of the artist’s friend Fraser, whose eyes are of different colours (heterochromia) from a childhood injury. Kapka says: ‘I wanted to make a point of it in this painting – using a magnifying glass to do so.’ Fraser had recently returned to studying at the Prince’s Drawing School and so Kapka included Fraser’s own selfportrait and hand-written letter in his depiction of his friend. The train tickets are those ordered to enable Kapka to deliver his entry for the BP Portrait Award.
