Oil on wooden panels

Professor Eileen Hogan is an established portrait artist who studied at the Royal College of Art. Her most recent solo exhibitions were at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and the V&A. Her work has been seen in group exhibitions including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (from 1974 to 2013) and the BP Portrait Award in 2007, 2009 and 2012.

The portrait is of the psychoanalyst and writer Adam Phillips, a mutual friend of the artist and Jane Brodie at whose request the paintings were made. The sittings took place in Hogan’s studio with the natural light reflected from the white houses outside.
