Sumsuch plays a set inspired by Michael Jackson. He says: MJ simply redefined what it meant to be a performer in such a seismic way that the reverberations carried way beyond music or even the arts. Ask many a pro basketball or NFL player where they picked up their quick turns and footwork and they'll tell you: Michael. He gave his youth to hard work and self-rehearsal, which he hid entirely from the world, choosing instead just to show us something so near-perfect it looked impossible, like magic. He gave my generation our very own superhero.
A musician and producer for almost two decades, Sumsuch’s brand of deep-thinking electronic music has found favour with discerning DJs the world over, among them John Morales, Osunlade, Justin Martin & Jody Wisternoff, as well as being licensed to compilations on Sony, HiNote and Hed Kandi. An accomplished DJ, Sumsuch has played at many of the World’s finest bars, clubs and beaches, as well as hosting a monthly show on leading electronic station Proton Radio (syndicated to a host of other stations across the globe). His label Colour and Pitch launched in 2013 with a small roster of talented underground artists, releasing ‘handcrafted electronic music from the heart’. Now on its 38th release, the label has enjoyed support from Mark Farina, Ashley Beedle & Parris Mitchell among many others. Transatlantic collaboration Mega Jawns (with Philadelphia soul man Will Brock) earned a deal with BBE Records in 2014 for debut album ‘Ten Letters From Home’. Singles ‘Joy’ and ‘Little Lady’ garnered radio plays all over the world, as well as hundreds of thousands of Spotify streams. Second album ‘With You Now’ was released in June 2018, receiving accololades from Jazzie B, Femi Fem, Rainer Trueby & Peter Kruder to name but a few. On top of all this, Sumsuch somehow finds time to work as a senior contributing editor for 5 Magazine Chicago, North America’s only dedicated House music publication.
