On the occasion of the publication of a never-before-seen collection of portraits of Kate Moss (Kate, published by Phaidon), celebrated photographer Mario Sorrenti talks to Emma Hope Allwood about his career in fashion and his twenty-five year artist/muse relationship with the iconic model, which began in the 1990s when they were teenage boyfriend and girlfriend.
Mario Sorrenti is an Italian-born photographer and director. He has published his work extensively in fashion magazines, including Vogue, i-D, W magazine, and Harper’s Bazaar. Sorrenti has exhibited his work internationally at museums including MoMA PS1, the Victoria & Albert Museum, and the National Portrait Gallery, London. He has shot ad campaigns for brands including Calvin Klein, Dior, Lancôme, Tom Ford, and Saint Laurent, among others. He lives in New York.
Emma Hope Allwood is a London-based writer and editor. She currently holds the position of Head of Fashion at Dazed & Confused magazine's website Dazed Digital.
